Hello MAHSLIN members,
As the MAHSLIN Board President for the 2020/2021 year, I’d like to shout a big hello to everyone. This year has been a bit out of the ordinary, to say the least. Typically the MAHSLIN Board Presidency role changes hands at the Annual Meeting. Our Annual Meeting was later than usual due to the extenuating circumstances and the summer was full of ongoing challenges and numerous changes. It appears we’ve all adapted as librarians typically do and are working well within our “new normal.”
The Annual Meeting was held virtually and went off without a hitch with a shortened agenda featuring our keynote presentation, “Research By The Numbers: Publication Metrics in Context,” presented by Tyler Nix and Judith Smith from the University of Michigan. I hope you were able to make it for that very informative presentation. One glitch we found with the meeting being held by Zoom was the number of attendees fluctuated throughout the meeting and we did not capture all attendee names. It was a learning experience.
Our next Annual Meeting will be held in April 2021 and we plan to hold it virtually as well. Jessie Casella, MAHSLIN’s VP/President-elect is chairing the Planning Committee and has a committee with planning underway for a fantastic Annual Meeting. If you’d like to work on the committee please contact Jessie.
Jason Smith, our Resource Sharing Chair, is working on purchasing ebooks and has the following message:
We haven’t added any titles to the Professional Book list on the MAHSLIN website’s Resources Page in a couple of years. The available funds will likely allow us to purchase four or five new titles this year. The descriptions for ten recent and relevant publications are listed in the attached EBooks for Your Consideration PDF. Please take a moment to review the list and send your feedback to Resource Sharing chairperson Jason Smith.

Thank you for continuing to support MAHSLIN and we wish you good health and success in the coming months. Please reach out with any suggestions for MAHSLIN’s coming year.
