by Janet Bolduc and Beth Dyer
On February 20, 2020, NAHSL members Janet Bolduc from the MaineGeneral Library & Resource Center and Beth Dyer from the University of New England traveled to Augusta for the Maine Library Legislative Day. They joined library supporters from across the state to advocate for libraries and discuss the life-changing work of libraries.
Janet and Beth staffed a Health Sciences Libraries table with NAHSL information, MLA and ALA posters, NLM brochures and handouts, and more. They spoke to a number of legislators, community members, and fellow librarians about the services and programs that health science libraries offer to help Maine communities.
Libraries are a resource that Maine citizens increasingly turn to for a wide variety of services. From early literacy to workforce development, libraries provide programs and services to Mainers of all ages, and they do so in a cost-effective manner.
The event also included advocacy training with Megan Cusick, Assistant Director for State Advocacy at the American Library Association, and an overview of the legislative process with Robert S. Howe of the Howe, Cahill & Company legislative team.
