Whether you’re looking for an interesting stop on the way to or from Woodstock, or planning to come early or stay after the conference to enjoy the Woodstock area, there are plenty of fun and interesting things to do! The Woodstock Chamber of Commerce offers many suggestions, and here are some others you might want to consider:
Billings Farm & Museum (Woodstock, VT)
This working dairy farm just down the road from the Woodstock Inn invites you to view – and share in – some of the real work done on a farm. There’s also a wonderful visitors’ center and museum that document the history of rural life in Vermont.
Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (Woodstock, VT)
Tour the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller mansion and gardens, watch a video on conservation history at the Carriage Barn visitors’ center, and explore the 20 miles of trails and carriage roads.
Montshire Museum of Science (Norwich, VT)
Fascinating exhibits, beautiful parks and trails – for all ages! (Some outdoor exhibits limited after Oct. 9)
Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site (Cornish, NH)
Discover the home, studios and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of America’s greatest sculptors. See over 100 of his artworks in the galleries and on the grounds, from heroic public monuments to expressive portrait reliefs, and the gold coins which changed the look of American coinage. Enjoy summer concerts, explore nature trails, or indulge your hidden talents during a sculpture class.
Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) (Quechee, VT)
A wonderful center that offers education and entertainment designed to encourage people to take care of the environment. Live raptor shows, extensive trails with audio tours, exhibits, and more combine to offer a fascinating outing.
King Arthur Flour (Norwich, VT)
The brand-new King Arthur store, café, and baking education center is opening at the end of September. If you love to bake, or just like to eat yummy stuff, this is a great stop! Stock up on favorite mixes, artisan flours, or even take a class.
Ben & Jerry’s (Waterbury, VT)
If you want to see where Chunky Monkey and Cherry Garcia are made and learn more about the socially and politically active company behind those and other tantalizing flavors, take a factory tour of Ben & Jerry’s! Plus, there’s a scoop shop right on the premises, so you can taste what you’re learning about. If you’re going to be around on the Saturday before the conference (Oct. 27th), Ben & Jerry’s is hosting their Halloween Fest, which usually includes free tours and lots of fun activities!
Cabot Cheese (Cabot, VT)
One of the major cheese producers in Vermont, Cabot is well-known for the high quality and delicious flavor of their cheese. At their visitors center, you can take a factory tour, watch cheese being made, and sample the results.
Vermont Cheese Trail (all over Vermont!)
Explore the cheeses of Vermont by stopping by one of the farms or dairies that is open to the public.
Harpoon Brewery (Windsor, VT)
Tour the brewery of this locally brewed favorite (Windsor is the second location for the Boston-based company), and try some samples while you’re at it!
